New 'do- Haircare Chat

Top: Winsdor Store / Skirt: Forever 21 / Purse & Shoes: Michael Kors

Back to my favorite shade on myself! My hair has been dyed literally EVERY natural shade of hair color other than gray *knocks on wood* and I cannot stress enough on how important is it to take special care of your locks from a young age, especially if you decide to color treat it. I have made the mistake of damaging my hair by bleaching it at home on my own. It was so bad that I had to stop dyeing it for awhile and it took me a couple years to get it healthy again. Shout out to my amazing hairstylist Katie B for fixing it! <3

Here are several tips for healthy and voluminous hair.

No. 1- Shampoo Less

Shampooing too frequently can strip your hair's natural oils causing it to look frizzy and prone to breakage. Choose a shampoo that is "sulphate free" as sulphates tend to dry out your hair and skin and strips your hair color sooner.

Keep in mind not to use dry shampoo too often or at all as its deposits build up on the hair follicles,  it could cause inflammation, weakening the follicles, which results in increased shedding. These products also cause hair follicles to stick together, so that a hair that would normally shed through brushing may take two or three strands along with it.

Everyone's hair is different, so work out the right number of washes for it. I recommend starting with every other day depending on your lifestyle.

No. 2- Condition

Do not skip conditioning! Condition each time you cleanse, starting from the ends and apply lightly at your roots so it does not fall flat too soon. Also, deep condition once every week or two depending on your hair type.

No. 3- Organic Coconut Oil/Argan Oil

I absolutely love organic coconut oil treatments at home! It nourishes and softens my hair, making it less prone to breakage. I always have some on hand as it amazing for so many things!

Argan oil is a good heat protector, reduces frizziness and is not as greasy as coconut oil so it is great for more frequent use.

No. 4.- Comb Gently

Separate your hair into sections, hold it halfway down, and brush from your hand downwards. Once those knots are out, continue to the top and brush through. Sounds obvious but I ALWAYS used to rush through brushing and end up pulling out more hair than necessary, so take your time.

No. 5- Invest in a great haircut
Period.

No. 6- Eat Healthy Fats

Avocados, nuts, fish, olive oil and coconut oil are amazing for your skin, hair and nails... so hopefully you are not allergic! I love having an avocado daily with one of my meals... it's a Californian staple!

No. 7- Vitamins

There are so many hair gummies and vitamins out there so please do your research on a good quality one. I take one that includes Vitamin C, E,  biotin and borage oil. Borage oil has the highest potency for naturally occurring GLA and I have noticed a big improvement in the past couple years personally.

No. 8- Sleep with a loose top knot

Gather your hair in a ponytail at the crown of your head and twist it all in one direction, then twist it around itself in bun and tie (not to tight though) with a soft hair scrunchie. This prevents hair tangling during the night and gives me natural soft waves the next day in case I do not have time to re-style it.

No. 9- Relax

Stresses in life cause hair loss so don't worry TOO much about it. In the end it's just hair. ;)

I cant think of a No.10 so that's it! If you have any haircare tips please share in the comments below! I'm always looking to brush up my skills...
